A study sponsored by the BBC show, “Trust Me, I’m a Doctor” suggests consuming turmeric powder regularly can help change the DNA of cells that cause depression, asthma, and cancer.

The study compared three groups and found those who regularly mixed turmeric powder into their food showed the most improvement in cell DNA. The powdered turmeric seems to reverse a change in gene activity called “methylation,” which is known to happen before tissue turns cancerous.

Dr. Kirsten Brandt, of Newcastle University, and Prof. Martin Widschwendter, of University College, London, conducted the study, along with their research teams.
