Thanksgiving Dinner

Haven’t done your shopping yet for Turkey Day? Great news! That trip to the store will cost a little less this year.

This year’s annual informal price survey by the American Farm Bureau Federation found that the average cost of a Thanksgiving dinner for 10 is just under $50, compared to just over $50 last year. That divides out to less than $5 per person.

The decrease was largely due to the price of turkey, which is down 2 cents per pound.

Other food items showing price decreases:

  • Pumpkin pie mix
  • Milk
  • Veggie tray

A few items also got more expensive, including brown-and-serve rolls, pie shells, and cranberries. But their effect wasn’t enough to detract from the turkey savings.
