Sonny Perdue

Yesterday, the Senate officially confirmed former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue as the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture by a vote of 87 to 11.

Perdue’s nomination drew mostly support and some criticism. He grew up on a farm and has a doctorate in veterinary medicine and a long history in the agriculture industry. Supporters see him as someone who will stand up for rural farmers. On the other hand, Perdue made a lot of his wealth in the fertilizer business, and opponents fear his allegiances may lie more with big business.

Only time will tell.
