Kellogg Company, Monsanto, and McCormick & Co. all made this year’s list of Top 50 Companies for Diversity according to DiversityInc.

DiversityInc, which has been publishing this list since 2001, uses several ranking factors to assess how proactive companies are about hiring, retaining, and promoting women, minorities, people with disabilities, LGBT, and veterans. Their survey includes more than 200 questions, assessing everything from how many women at the companies have corner offices to demographics of the suppliers the companies use.

Here’s what they had to say about the three food companies on the list.

#28 Kellogg Company

Kellogg Company, which was #30 last year, got good marks for diverse senior leadership and management. The company also ties executive compensation to diversity and offers employee resource groups and diversity and inclusion councils.

DiversityInc also cited the Breakfasts for Better Days program that provides food for people in need.

#39 Monsanto

Moving up four spots this year, Monsanto made the list for the diversity of its senior leadership and workforce in general.

The company has also developed a training program to reduce bias in hiring. As a result, in 2016, 28% of new Monsanto hires were people of color.

#45 McCormick & Company

McCormick & Company is on the list for the first time, largely because of its commitment to advancing the careers of women, who make up 50.1% of the company’s senior leadership, and Latinos, who comprise 39.2% of the Board of Directors.

These results show that the food industry is making progress on diversity, but there’s still plenty of room for improvement. It would be great to see not only more food companies on the list, but also a few breaking into the top 25.
