SUMMARY:The Key to Building Brand Trust: Sharing the Story of On-Farm Innovation
DESCRIPTION:Register for the webinar here \nFrom The Center for Food Integrity: \nAt a time when sustainability is driving the choices of more consumers\, customers\, investors and other important stakeholders\, food companies can help build their sustainability success story by starting at the farm gate. \nCFI consumer research shows that consumers trust farmers and want to hear from them. By touting the technology and sustainable practices used on today’s farms\, food companies can build credibility and trust. This is especially important for Millennials and Gen Z who are more open to technology as a way to solve global challenges. \nIt’s an approach that can also help overcome the “big is bad” bias where consumers believe companies are motivated solely by profit\, and not the public’s best interest. Leveraging the farmer “halo” can help bridge that gap. \n“With that in mind\, it’s important to assess whether you’re ready to answer questions from more curious and skeptical consumers about your sustainability approaches and whether they can trust you to do the right thing\,” said Roxi Beck\, consumer engagement director with The Center for Food Integrity (CFI). \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:"Design to Clean: Creating a Hygiene Focused Culture" and "FSMA Update and The New Era of Smarter Food Safety"
DESCRIPTION:Register for the webinar here \nFrom 3-A: \nDesign to Clean: Creating a Hygiene Focused Culture \nDarin Zehr\, Commercial Food Sanitation. LLC \nCreating a hygiene-focused culture entails far more than establishing written procedures across every dimension of the organization. A culture of hygiene excellence means there is alignment of common values between all levels of executive management\, middle management and team leaders when it comes to food safety and hygiene. Having a strong hygiene culture is very important and a focus on design is a critical enabler. \nFSMA Update and The New Era of Smarter Food Safety \nBenjamin Warren\, Senior Science Advisor for Food Safety\, FDA \nThe Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)\, signed into law on January 4\, 2011\, made clear that it is not enough to just react to outbreaks…they must be prevented from happening in the first place.  While there is still work to be done\, FDA has finalized the seven foundational rules outlining the risk-based preventive measures that are required of those covered by FSMA who grow\, manufacture\, process\, pack\, store\, and transport domestic and imported foods. More recently\, FDA has announced the New Era of Smarter Food Safety blueprint that outlines a 10-yr roadmap for creating a more digital\, traceable\, and safer food system. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:How to Reduce Food Safety Risk by Eliminating Silos
DESCRIPTION:Register for the webinar here \nFrom SafetyChain: \nWhen you don’t have timely information\, it’s difficult to understand the current state of operations to help you drive efficiency or mitigate risk. In food manufacturing\, quality and safety should be monitored\, measured\, and addressed by every function within the organization – but often\, the various roles and teams have become siloed from each other\, putting food quality and safety at risk. \nResearch has found a mature culture focused on safety results in 54% fewer mistakes\, but how do you build it? In this webinar\, Dr. Lone Jespersen will outline the risks and impacts from functional silos within food manufacturing\, discuss the maturity scale of food safety culture\, and how manufacturers can eliminate ineffective silos to improve communications\, safety\, and quality. \nKey takeaways include: \n\nWays of using measures and KPIs to minimize silos\nWhere functional silos typically exist and why\nHow cultural maturity impacts output\, compliance\, and reduces risk\n\nRegister here.

SUMMARY:"Dry Cleaning for Hygienic Equipment" and "Allergen Control Strategies"
DESCRIPTION:Register for the webinar here \nFrom 3-A: \nDry Cleaning for Hygienic Equipment \nMonty Bohanan\, Leprino Foods \nFood safety from a microbiological perspective in dry dairy powder operations is dependent on minimizing water introduction into the environment and equipment – even during cleaning. Removing soils without the benefit of water nor wet chemistry presents efficacy and efficiency challenges. This is even more of a challenge for food safety from an allergen clean perspective. Sanitary Design can help ensure effective cleaning in dry clean only applications\, especially if the design considers the limitations and objectives for cleaning without water. An understanding of why a “war on water” is critical to food safety in dry clean only applications will promote good sanitary design. \nAllergen Control Strategies \nDr. Joe Baumert\, University of Nebraska \nFood allergens account for a significant proportion of recalled food products in the U.S. each year. Labeling/packaging errors and the unintended presence of allergen residues from cross-contact were mentioned in FSMA as two primary causes of food allergen related recalls. Development of an allergen control program which incorporates both cGMPs and preventive controls for food allergens is required per 21 CFR 117; however\, regulatory guidance document for the industry on food allergen control is pending. This presentation will provide a high-level overview of allergen control considerations with an emphasis on operational controls and cleaning strategies. \nRegister here.
