Penn State Extension Offers Webinar on Food Safety for Volunteers

Cooking for Crowd

Volunteers who help prepare and serve food for their nonprofit organization are encouraged to attend a webinar on food safety offered by Penn State Extension. The webinar is offered in two parts–part one on July 21 and part two on July 23 from 6:30 PM – 8:15 PM. Or participate in one full session on July 29 from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM.

“Cooking for Crowds: A Volunteer’s Guide to Safe Food Handling” webinar helps non-profit organizations and their volunteers understand the risks involved with preparing large volumes of food and the important food safety practices that need to be implemented to ensure a safe event.

Participants will learn the causes of foodborne illness as well as safe food handling practices.
Topics include good personal hygiene for all volunteers involved in food preparation; time and temperature controls needed to keep food out of the temperature danger zone; ways to prevent cross contamination; and cleaning and sanitizing within the operation.

The cost to attend the webinar is $10. To register, visit extension.psu.edu/cooking-for-crowds-webinar or call 877-345-0691.

Cooking for Crowds: A Volunteer’s Guide to Safe Food Handling was developed in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and participants can receive a certificate of completion after attending the program.
