Arlington, VA – The American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI) recognizes World Food Safety Day by supporting the industry’s commitment to food safety and offering year-round resources to support a company’s internal programs and processes. The AFFI Food Safety Zone, available at www.affi.org/safety, includes a suite of evidence-based materials and information designed to help frozen food processors and ingredient suppliers mitigate food safety concerns such as Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) and enteric viruses. This library of materials is available to any organization seeking to advance their food safety procedures and implement best practices.
“With our members, AFFI has developed a year-round food safety resource available to support the entire frozen food industry,” said Alison Bodor, president and CEO of AFFI. “The AFFI Food Safety Zone offers educational materials, certification programs and standardized procedures to help frozen food processors and suppliers elevate their food safety profile. We are pleased to work in support of the advancement of food safety and take an active role in sharing science-driven tools for food safety professionals.”
The AFFI Food Safety Zone, first launched in 2019 and expanded in 2021, includes program materials to assist frozen food companies in addressing food safety concerns within their organizations. The Listeria Control Program includes free resources to help frozen food processors prevent and control Lm in their facility. This also includes a Listeria Control Specialist certificate program for food safety management professionals, offered in partnership with the International Food Protection Training Institute. The recently-created Enteric Viruses Control Program (EVCP) provides resources directed at preventing and controlling norovirus and hepatitis A throughout the global frozen fruit supply chain.
“The AFFI Food Safety Zone is available to the frozen food industry thanks to the focus our members hold in advancing a culture of safety,” added Bodor. “Whether by promoting best practices, supporting scientific research, or educating consumers on cooking and handling instructions, AFFI will support food safety and work with our members as they ensure safe and delicious meals for families.”
