New initiative brings together all sectors of the poultry industry to develop and share science-based strategies for addressing food safety challenges
TUCKER, GA – The Poultry Industry Food Safety Council (PIFSCo), a new collaborative initiative dedicated to advancing food safety practices across the poultry industry, officially launched today. Representing the breeder, broiler, duck, layer and turkey sectors, PIFSCo works to identify research priorities, share practical solutions and promote continuous improvement in food safety practices. The organization’s launch coincides with the debut of its new website, PIFSCo.org, which will serve as the central hub for resources and program updates.
Created in response to an increasingly complex food safety landscape, PIFSCo is committed to developing and disseminating food safety best practices throughout the industry while prioritizing research needs.
“Food safety is the foundation of consumer trust and the key to the long-term success of our industry,” said Kevin Atkins, PIFSCo board chair. “Through PIFSCo, we are bringing together the best science, expertise and industry collaboration to raise the standard of food safety from farm to fork.”
The new website provides a platform for industry leaders to access timely information, including:
- Education resources for food safety professionals
- Updates on research and initiatives supported by industry partners
- Opportunities to engage with working groups and share best practices
- Information on membership and participation
PIFSCo is supported by and complements the work of leading industry associations, including the American Egg Board, Duck Council, Meat Institute, National Chicken Council, National Turkey Federation, United Egg Producers and U.S. Poultry & Egg Association. PIFSCo currently is governed by an executive board and represents more than 50 poultry companies and allied industry partners committed to advancing food safety.
“By uniting stakeholders across the poultry industry sectors, PIFSCo will help ensure consistent standards, rapid knowledge-sharing, and a stronger foundation for continuous improvement,” said Kim Rice, PIFSCo vice chair.
