Soybean Production Hit an All-Time High in 2016

Cornfield

Soybean production hit a record 4.31 billion bushels in 2016, according to the USDA’s Crop Production 2016 Summary. That’s up 10% from the year before.

Meanwhile, corn production grew 11% and rice %16, while sorghum was down 20% from 2015. Cotton also jumped at +32%.

Overall, more area was planted and more area was harvested last year than in 2015, but both numbers are still below 2014 levels.

The USDA Crop Production Summary explores the production, acreage, and yield for principal crops across the United States. In addition to the five on this list, the summary includes oats, barley, rye, several types of wheat, peanuts, sunflower, dry edible beans, potatoes, canola, proso millet, and sugarbeets.
