Do Online Grocery’s “Horrible Numbers” Signal Failure?

In an article today, Food Navigator USA compares online grocery shopping numbers and comments from IRI, Neilsen, and other analytics firms.

A recent TABS Analytics survey shows just 4.5% of consumers regularly purchase food and beverage goods online. CEO Kurt Jetta is quick to point out that growth projections for CPG e-commerce may not equal growth for grocery in particular.

Jetta added in a webinar from TABS:

“For the fourth year in a row, consumers have turned their backs on buying groceries online, no matter how much online grocery retailers try to entice them. Sixty-nine percent of consumers never buy groceries online. With only 15% of consumers stating loyalty to shopping for groceries online, this is not a sustainable business model, especially when you consider the industry loyalty rate benchmark is 70%.”
