Food and Beverage Industry Makes Progress Toward Energy Efficiency Goals

Better Plants 2020

Last week, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) released its 2020 Better Plant Annual Progress Update. The Better Plants program helps manufacturing partners work to reduce energy intensity across their U.S. operations. The typical goal is 25% energy savings in 10 years.

The list of Better Plant partners features several food companies, including Campbell Soup Company, PepsiCo, and Tyson Foods, as well as suppliers such as JBT Corporation.

Cumulatively, the 235 Better Plants partners, representing 3,200 manufacturing facilities, have saved $8.2 billion and 1.7 quadrillion BTUs of energy. Here’s what the food and beverage industry and their supplier partners achieved in 2020.

Cold chain solution provider Lineage Logistics joined the Better Plants Challenge, a leadership initiative through which companies share their data, solutions, and success to help other organizations achieve their energy efficiency goals.

JBT Corporation surpassed its goal by achieving 25% energy savings in 9 years.
