Food Blockchain Leader from Europe Launches a New Transparency Project in the U.S. with Triscuit

Following their successful blockchain traceability implementation in Europe, Mondelēz International chose Connecting Food to launch their first food transparency project in the United States, with the iconic cracker brand Triscuit.

By scanning the QR code on the Triscuit box, consumers can discover the crackers entire journey from the farm to their home, via a webapp.

Consumer demand for transparency has been on the rise over the past several years. A 2020 study from FMI and Label Insight collected data from 1,000 US omnichannel grocery shoppers, and revealed that 81% of shoppers say transparency is now more important than ever when shopping on-line or in-store.

Last July, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced its New Era of Smarter Food Safety Blueprint, which takes a new approach to food safety: using technology to create a more digital and traceable food system. The FDA is encouraging food producers to use new technologies such as blockchain to track food from farm to table.

Connecting Food worked closely with all members of the Triscuit Supply Chain, from the Cooperative to the manufacturing site, in order to provide maximum transparency regarding the origin and quality of the wheat used for the crackers.

Through the webapp’s dynamic map, consumers can view the location of more than 127 farmers who participate in the Unity Gold Farmer Program. They can also navigate through the processing and production steps for the crackers.
