3-A SSI Opens Registration for ‘Design to Clean: Creating a Hygiene-focused Culture’

McLEAN, Virginia – 3-A SSI announces the opening of registration for the revamped 2022 education program and annual meeting on May 17-19, 2022 at the Hilton Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport Hotel in Bloomington, MN.  The program will feature experts on a range of leading topics and issues in the hygienic design of food processing equipment.

In a special welcome, 3-A SSI Chair Chris Hylkema (New York State Dept. of Agriculture. & Markets) stated “After two challenging years, 3-A SSI is returning to Bloomington, MN for our yearly education program and annual meeting. Plan now to help us bring the 3-A SSI community together once again for this high-quality ‘live’ event.”

The 2022 education events will open with a comprehensive introductory and networking session on Tuesday, May 17 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Foundations of Hygienic Design.  This one-day introductory session is designed for industry newcomers and early career professionals and it’s also a great refresher for professionals at other levels. This will be a fast-moving, comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of hygienic design and the elements that distinguish 3-A Sanitary Standards.  Presentation topics will include: Elements of Hygienic Design, Standards and Regulation, Materials of Construction, Principles of Hygienic Equipment Design and Fabrication, Principles of Hygienic Facility Design, Cleaning and Sanitizing and Operations and Quality.

The second day, May 18, will feature a lineup of leading experts and timely topics on the theme ‘Design to Clean: Creating a Hygiene-focused Culture’.   Drawing on extensive experience in food processing operations around the world, keynote speaker Darin Zehr (Commercial Food Sanitation, LLC) will examine the challenges food processors face in creating a strong hygiene culture where focus on design is a critical enabler. This discussion will look at how design decisions, including equipment design, impact success in reducing food safety risk.

Speakers will share expert perspectives on improving the design and construction of food processing equipment and proving the effectiveness of specific equipment cleaning and sanitizing procedures. Topics and presenters include:

The half-day 3-A SSI Annual Meeting will open on Thursday morning, May 19 with a special Networking Breakfast followed by the 3-A SSI Annual Meeting and presentations ‘What’s Ahead for the 3-A General Requirements Standard’ and a ‘Panel Discussion on COVID Recovery’.
