Eagan, MN. – September 29, 2022 – This is an historic time for SOMIC Packaging. Since PACK EXPO Las Vegas was held one year ago, a combination of developments have sparked growth that can be traced back to SOMIC’s heritage 424 machine series. Therefore, the company will demonstrate a 424 W3 wraparound case packer at PACK EXPO International, October 23-26, in booth LU-8135 at McCormick Place in Chicago.
For SOMIC Packaging CEO Peter Fox, PACK EXPO represents an opportunity to show customers how the advantages of retail-ready automation with the latest technology available can address their needs.
“The fundamental driver to our growth is having the ability to configure our standard 424 machine platform to the unique needs of our customers. We’re using standard functional groups to achieve these requirements, not a new, one-off design,” he said.
“This gives our customers and us the flexibility to change for future needs. Our machines also can run standard case configurations to adapt to the demand for Retail-Ready systems. Besides showing people how this works at PACK EXPO, we’ve developed a new Buyers Guide that provides key information to begin this process. I think it will help open the door to conversations at the show.”
The wraparound case packer that will be run in the Lakeside building at McCormick Place is a perfect example. It produces up to 25 cases per minute, utilizing what Fox describes as the ultimate in space-saving simplicity and ensuring a smooth operation.
“That is what’s remarkable about the 424 series. It can be adapted for any purpose including cartons, open or covered trays and lid inserts, and the compact design allows customers to make the most of their floor space. When you see up close how the engineering and technology work in tandem, it’s a wonderfully efficient process that can’t be matched in the marketplace.”
Fox said a series of events have made the company more efficient as well.
“A groundswell of momentum began right after Las Vegas last September and it carried over into 2022,” said Fox. “We introduced some new principles and guidelines to our business but everything went into overdrive starting in April. That’s when we began the commissioning of all North American machines from our headquarters in Minnesota.
“Part of our new strategy,” he continued, “involves directing more resources to servicing our customers. We started by hiring an experienced Service and After Sales manager. Next, we added more Service technicians and a Service Technician Exchange program. Young, technical-savvy people from our corporate parent are now relocating from Germany for an extended period of time. Recently, we’ve added more support staff and representatives who are now heading Sales efforts in the Western and Midwest regions.”
With such a promising outlook, Fox said there is plenty of work to do after PACK EXPO.
“We will be delivering several new machines after the show, and the commissioning schedule is full for the remainder of the year and to start 2023,” he noted. “This will be the first live PACK EXPO event in Chicago in four years, so I’m looking forward to seeing everyone back in our booth.”
