The latest food recall doesn’t involve Listeria. The culprit? A winged mammal.
A dead bat reportedly found inside a bag of Fresh Express Organic Marketside Spring Mix in a Florida Walmart sparked a precautionary recall on Saturday and investigation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Last week, two people from Florida ate from a salad bag before noticing the dead bat in a “deteriorated condition.” Florida state health officials and the CDC recommended that both people begin post-exposure rabies treatment, although risk of transmission is low.
As a precautionary effort, Fresh Express announced a recall of a limited number of Organic Marketside Spring Mix cases sold to Walmart stores throughout the southeastern United States.
