The demand for RTE poultry packaging products will reach $450 million by 2021, according to new research from the Freedonia Group.
Growth in the packaging sector will be boosted by growth in the overall prepared foods market, “as consumers continue to see convenient, affordable meal options that require little or no preparation.”
Here are some of the key findings from the report:
- Consumers increasingly want “convenience-oriented” products. This means vacuum pouches for individual portions of fresh poultry products, and stand-up pouches and plastic containers for processed and RTE poultry products.
- Foam trays will remain standard for fresh poultry products because they’re a cost-effective solution.
- The RTE poultry packaging market will grow the fastest. However, processed poultry will also gain popularity as consumers seek a healthier alternative to red meat.
- The big winner for poultry packaging will be the domed containers used for rotisserie chicken and roasted turkey breast. Analyst Katie Wieser commented: “Gains will exceed the product average due to the fact that roasted chicken and turkey are some of the most popular products in this segment.”
Overall, this research corresponds very well with the trends we’ve seen across the industry toward convenience and fresh prepared foods, especially among Millennials.
