President Trump’s executive order effectively stopping immigration from certain countries has drawn rebuke from many industries.

On Saturday, North American Meat Institute President and CEO Barry Carpenter added the meat industry to the list, saying in a statement: “Historically, our industry has been an excellent starting point for new Americans. Immigrants and refugees can be an important component of some companies’ labor forces, especially in rural areas where low unemployment creates a tight labor supply.”

He also urged the administration to think carefully about the effect of such policies on businesses as well as on foreign-born workers.
