If you’re looking for a new job, you might want to check out the availabilities at General Mills. The food giant was the only large food or beverage company to make the Top 100 on Forbes’ America’s Best Employers List for 2018, coming in at #58.
The list was determined by surveying 30,000 American workers at companies with more than 1,000 employees. The survey asked a simple question: On a scale of 0-10, how likely would you be to recommend your employer to others? The results were divided by company size: midsize (1,000 to 5,000 employees) and large (5,000+ employees). Five hundred companies made each list.
A total of 23 food and beverage companies made the large companies list. In the 100-200 range were Land O’ Lakes, Saputo Cheese, and foodservice wholesaler and distributor Reyes Holdings. The others, including PepsiCo and Kraft Heinz, were clustered near the bottom.
The Best Midsize Employers List included 13 food and beverage companies, with sausage company Johnsonville (#86) and infant formula manufacturer Mead Johnson Nutrition (#88) breaking the Top 100.
Food and beverage companies have been struggling to find new workers. These results suggest they might start by making sure their current employees are happy. Employee referrals remain the best source of new hires. On the flip side, unhappy employees are more likely to vent their frustrations on websites like Glassdoor.
