FPSA is “All in” with its Defeat Hunger Campaign and a Donation of $109,715 (335,246 Meals) to the Greater Chicago Food Depository

Bringing the eight-year campaign total of 1.6 million meals to Chicago’s families in-need.

Chicago, IL –The Foundation of the Food Processing Suppliers Association (FFPSA), has once again teamed up with the Food Processing Association’s members to work with the Greater Chicago Food Depository on 2021 DEFEAT HUNGER Campaign. This is the fifth time that the Association has initiated an effort to help those in need in Cook County. The Defeat Hunger campaign was created in 2013 with the goal of helping to feed the hundreds of thousands of Cook County residents the Food Depository serves every year.

The Defeat Hunger campaign was launched in 2013 with a donation of $75,000 by the FFPSA Foundation, and the Food Depository with the goal of addressing food insecurity in Cook County. With this year’s financial and food drive contribution of food donated by members/exhibitors the total amount of meals now raised throughout the years totals more than 1.6 million meals.

“The Greater Chicago Food Depository is an amazing organization that plays an integral in the Chicago community,” said Tom Kittle, Chairman of the Foundation of the Food Processing Suppliers Association (FPSA) and CEO of Handtmann USA.  “As PROCESS EXPO is held in Chicago bi-annually, it is very important to FPSA, our members, and the industry that we give back to the community that houses our trade show.”

The Greater Chicago Food Depository is Chicago’s food bank and makes a daily impact across Cook County with a network of 700 pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, mobile programs, children’s programs, older adult programs, and innovative responses that address the root causes of hunger. Last year, the Food Depository distributed a historic 117 million pounds of shelf-stable food, fresh produce, dairy products, and meat, the equivalent of 97.5 million meals.

“FPSA and PROCESS EXPO are invaluable partners to the Greater Chicago Food Depository, and the Defeat Hunger campaign is a strong statement from the food manufacturing industry that no man, woman, and child should go hungry,” said Kate Maehr, Food Depository executive director and CEO.

“We are thrilled by the remarkable results of this campaign and look forward to continuing our relationship for years to come.”
