Marking “a major milestone for the cultivated meat industry,” the FDA has approved the sale of cultivated meat for the first time in the U.S., Wired reported. The decision only applies to UPSIDE Foods and its cultured chicken, after the FDA completed an evaluation of the startup’s production process and issued a “no further questions” letter. The company’s products still must meet other federal requirements before entering the market, including an inspection by the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service.
