EFFV Unveils PFerrinX26, the First U.S. Facility Dedicated to Precision Fermentation Lactoferrin Production

PFerrinX26 Will Provide Precision Fermentation at Scale for Sustainable Lactoferrin Production

[Geneva – February, 12th 2025] Earth First Food Ventures Ltd (EFFV), a leading venture capital platform specializing in ESG and impact investments in innovative food technologies, has proudly announced the launch of PFerrinX26, the first U.S.-based precision fermentation facility focused exclusively on Lactoferrin (LF) production. PFerrinX26, addresses a critical gap in the supply of the protein, widely celebrated for its remarkable health benefits and market potential.

EFFV’s focus on precision fermentation dairy stems from a growing global shortfall in dairy production, projected to reach $75 billion within the next decade. The scalability of precision fermentation provides an innovative and sustainable and ethical alternative to meet this demand. Lactoferrin, specifically, offers a strategic opportunity due to its high market value and lower capital expenditure (CapEx) requirements compared to other dairy proteins like Beta-Lactoglobulin (BLG) and casein.

Lactoferrin, a minor protein naturally found in milk, is celebrated for its multifunctional properties. It is known to possess antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and anti-carcinogenic qualities. Additionally, it supports immune function, cognition, gut health, and bone strength, making it a sought-after ingredient in diverse applications, being described as a “miracle molecule” by a recent National Library of Medicine study.

Despite its significance, the production of Lactoferrin is limited. Extracting one gallon of LF requires thousands of gallons of milk, resulting in a global supply of only 850 metric tons per year, produced across approximately 45 facilities worldwide. This scarcity drives up prices, with Lactoferrin often costing between $600 and $1,500 per kilogram.

EFFV is actively working to overcome these barriers through collaboration and technological innovation. Unlike many competitors, PFerrinX26 will build and operate its own American facilities rather than rely on co-manufacturing agreements. This approach allows for greater control over production quality and cost efficiency.

Ricardo Radwanski, CFO and Co-Founder of Earth First Food Ventures, shared his insights in a recent interview about the company’s focus on precision fermentation Lactoferrin.

“We’re thrilled to be launching the first precision fermentation facility producing Lactoferrin ‘without the cow’. Our first facility will be located in the mid-west where we have an abundance of dextrose–a large input and crucial feedstock for the production of Lacroferrin.”

The precision fermentation dairy industry has immense potential but faces challenges including high production costs, limited manufacturing capacity available, and the need for significant investment in specialized facilities. Additionally, consumer education and inconsistent global regulatory frameworks further complicate efforts to scale and commercialize these innovative products.

In response, EFFV is focusing its initial scaling efforts in the United States, where the regulatory landscape is better aligned to support innovation in this field. These challenges highlight the need for strategic collaboration, investment, and innovation to unlock the full potential of precision fermentation dairy.

PFerrinX26 is uniquely positioned to lead the precision fermentation dairy sector by taking ownership of the production process and collaborating with technology providers and Lactoferrin producers. With precision fermentation dairy on the horizon, this initiative represents an incredible opportunity to build sustainable solutions and establish the foundation for a more innovative and resilient food system.
